Welcome to Arrest Stories. A Houston man on the city's Most Wanted list has been arrested for allegedly shooting his teenage neighbor three times in the back while the victim was holding a funeral for his family's beloved guinea pig named Cookie. Here's what may have happened.
On July seventeenth, eighteen-year-old Emmanuel Menchaca was returning home from work when he and his twelve-year-old brother decided to bury their family's pet guinea pig in their backyard. What should have been a simple farewell to their beloved pet Cookie turned into a nightmare when their forty-six-year-old neighbor, John Martin Dixon, allegedly opened fire without warning or provocation.
According to police reports, Emmanuel was shot three times in the back while on his own property. The victim's younger brother witnessed the entire shooting and immediately identified Dixon as the gunman. Emmanuel spent seventeen harrowing days in the intensive care unit, nearly losing his life.
The victim's mother recalled the terrifying moment her son thought he wouldn't survive, stating, "He said, 'Mom, I love you, Dad, I love you, I'm not going to make it.'" She emphasized that her son "buried the guinea pig on my property, never stepped foot, never laid a hand on the resident's property."
Investigators seized Dixon's gun the night of the shooting, and Emmanuel positively identified Dixon in a photo lineup the following day. However, authorities needed additional time to build their case. Officials explained, "You typically try to ensure that you have the best charge and best case before you get it into the court system. We needed to ensure we had ballistics."
The shooting dramatically altered Emmanuel's life plans. Instead of heading to college as originally planned, he moved to San Antonio to continue his education while recovering from his injuries. "This whole event really changed my life by changing everything I used to do," Emmanuel shared.
Dixon was subsequently placed on Houston's Top Ten Most Wanted list before his recent arrest on charges of aggravated assault and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
All suspects presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Do not take this report as factual, always verify facts. Thanks for watching Arrest Stories.
