Welcome to Arrest Stories. A fifty-five-year-old man faces domestic battery charges after a family argument at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport escalated into violence that left his wife on the ground and multiple family members injured.
Heres what may have happened according to official police reports.
Monday evening around nine o'clock, deputies responded to Terminal Four at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport following reports of a domestic disturbance. Michael Barrow, age fifty-five, had been involved in a heated family argument that began during their journey to the airport and reached a boiling point outside the terminal.
According to police documents, the altercation started when Barrow argued with his teenage son and threatened to strike him. The situation intensified when someone began taunting Barrow, further escalating tensions among the family members.
Barrow's wife Shelley attempted to intervene and break up the growing confrontation. However, as Barrow swung a punch intended for the person he was quarreling with, he inadvertently struck his wife instead. Officials reported that Barrow "went to punch a family member during an argument but accidentally punched his wife and then she fell to the ground."
The violence didn't end there. After hitting his wife "in the face, which caused her to fall on the ground," Barrow then punched the person he was originally quarreling with "in the face with a closed fist." When his adult son stepped in to help, a wrestling match ensued between the family members.
Deputies arrested Barrow outside the airport following the incident. He faces charges of domestic battery and domestic touch or strike battery. Bond was set at five thousand dollars.
The details of Barrow's arrest became public knowledge Wednesday when reported by local media outlets.
